What You Need To Know

Open Enrollment is October 27 - November 10. Open Enrollment is your once-a-year opportunity to review your benefits and make sure that you have the right coverage for yourself and your family.

What’s New, What’s Changing

There are a few exciting enhancements to your 2027 benefits!

New programs to support your well-being

We’re introducing three new programs that provide support for diabetes, muscle and joint pain (such as shoulder or lower back), and women’s health, including fertility. If you are enrolled in a UnitedHealthcare medical plan, you are eligible to participate in these programs.

Virta Health

Type 2 diabetes

  • Get support without surgery or reliance on lifelong medications.
  • Receive ongoing care from a dedicated care team of medical providers and health coaches who help track key health numbers like blood sugar and weight.
  • Receive a personalized daily eating plan with food choices that fit your routine and lifestyle.
  • No out-of-pocket cost for those who engage with Virta.

Hinge Health

Joint and muscle pain

  • Say goodbye to traveling to and from physical therapy.
  • Get personalized physical therapy from the comfort of your own home using a tablet or smartphone.
  • Access your own health coach.
  • Receive personalized exercises and stretches developed by physical therapists to help you move more comfortably, reduce pain, and reach your health goals.
  • No out-of-pocket cost for those who use Hinge Health.

Progyny

Women’s health at every stage

  • Includes support before pregnancy
  • Includes fertility care and family-building options such as IVF, pregnancy and recovery after birth
  • Includes menopause and midlife health resources.
  • Costs for using Progyny—including deductible, copays, and coinsurance—are determined by your UHC health plan.

These programs will begin on January 1, 2027. More information will be provided later this year.

Special opportunity to increase your Life Insurance coverage

Only during this year’s Open Enrollment, you can elect or increase your Supplemental Employee Life Insurance coverage to 3x your base salary or $500,000, whichever is less, without evidence of insurability (EOI). You can also elect or increase your Spouse Life coverage to $50,000 without EOI.

Increased savings and spending account contribution limits

The IRS sets contribution limits for your savings and spending accounts. Two limits are increasing in 2027:

  • Health Savings Account: You can contribute up to $4,500 if you have employee-only coverage, and up to $9,000 if you cover your family. Republic Services will contribute too. Any money in your HSA will roll over to the following year.
  • Health Care Flexible Spending Account: You can contribute up to $3,400. Any unused funds up to $680 will carry over to the following year. Any amount over $680 left in your account at the end of the year will be forfeited.

Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account limits are not changing. If you’re single or married and file a joint tax return, you can contribute up to $7,500 per household. If you’re married and file separate tax returns, you can each contribute up to $3,750.

Before You Enroll

Get the most out of your benefits by taking a few simple steps before you make your choices for 2027:

  1. Review your benefits. Before you enroll, explore this website to learn more about your Republic Services benefits. This includes learning more about your 401(k). While you can make changes to your 401(k) savings plan at any time of the year, this is a good time to consider increasing your contribution and reviewing your investments.
  2. Use the decision support tool to review your medical coverage. Not sure which plan is right for you? This helps you compare your options and choose what fits best. Access the tool on the Benefits Service Center website.

When You’re Ready To Enroll

When you’re ready to enroll, you have three options:

  1. Online: Go to the Benefits Service Center website.
    • If you do not have a registered account, set up your username and password, and use the Company Key “republic” when prompted.
    • If you forgot your password, select Trouble Logging In? and follow the prompts to reset your password.
  2. Phone: Call the Benefits Service Center at 888.850.1767, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT.
  3. Mobile: Use the MyChoice® benefits app.

Take Note!

The benefits you enroll in during Open Enrollment will be in effect from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2027.

You won’t be able to make changes to your benefit elections until the next Open Enrollment period unless you experience a qualifying life event, such as marriage, divorce, or the birth or adoption of a child.

After You Enroll

You’ll receive a confirmation statement that lists your benefit choices. Review it carefully and contact the Benefits Service Center if anything is incorrect.

Reminders

  • Payroll deductions for your benefits will begin with the first paycheck after January 1, 2027.
  • To participate in the Flexible Spending Accounts, you must re-enroll each year. Elections do not automatically carry over from year to year.

Why It's Important to Enroll

If you take no action by 11:59 p.m. CT on November 10, 2026, here’s what happens:

  • Your current benefits will continue.
  • You must re-enroll in the Spending Accounts each year to participate.
  • Make sure you're enrolled in the right medical plan.
  • Take a look at your life insurance coverage.
