What You Need To Know

Congratulations! Whether you’re just starting to plan the big day or you’re returning from your honeymoon, here’s what you need to know about your benefits and where you can find help.

Note that you must make changes within 31 days of your qualifying life event; otherwise, you’ll have to wait until Open Enrollment. To add your new spouse, visit the Benefits Service Center website and select Change My Benefits. You will need to provide a marriage certificate.

Medical, Dental and Vision

You can enroll your new spouse and any newly eligible children to your medical, dental and vision coverage. Or, you might decide to drop your current coverage and enroll in your spouse’s employer-sponsored plans. Changes must be made within 31 days of marriage. You will need to provide your marriage certificate for your spouse. If you’re adding your stepchildren, you will need to provide their birth certificates. You have 30 days to submit the documentation once you begin the qualifying life event. The documentation is submitted on your benefits record through the Benefits Service Center website. If you do not submit the documentation, your dependents will not have coverage.

Health Savings Account (HSA)

Contributing to an HSA? Update your beneficiary and consider increasing your HSA contributions to cover your spouse’s eligible health care costs.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)

If you experience a qualifying life event, you may be able to enroll in an FSA or increase your contributions to meet your needs. You can also submit your new spouse’s and eligible family members’ expenses for reimbursement.

Voluntary Life and Accident Insurance

Your options include changing your coverage level and purchasing additional coverage for your spouse.

Be sure to review and update your beneficiary information, if desired.
