What You Need To Know

Welcome to Republic Services! We’re excited to offer you programs that support your and your family’s health, well-being and financial security. Here’s everything you need to know about getting started with your Republic Services benefits.

Your First Week

Beginning on your hire date, you’re automatically eligible for:

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) at no cost to you.
  • Republic Services 401(k) Savings Plan, where you can build your retirement savings and take advantage of the company’s matching contributions.

Once you receive your welcome email or letter from Fidelity, visit Fidelity NetBenefits to elect how much you want to contribute from your paycheck to your Republic Services 401(k) Savings Plan. To begin, select Register as a new user to create your username and password.

If you do not act after 90 days of employment, you’ll automatically be enrolled in the 401(k) Savings Plan at a 3% pre-tax contribution rate in the Target Date Retirement Fund that is closest to your estimated date of retirement based on your age.

Look for your welcome email from the Benefits Service Center, which will include details that will help you start thinking about which benefits to enroll in. You’ll have 60 days.

Your First Month

Beginning the first of the month following your date of hire, you can participate in the Employee Discount Program through Perks at Work. This benefit offers discounts for everyday purchases and is provided at no cost to you through Republic Services.

Within 60 Days

Within your first 60 days of employment with Republic Services, if you’d like to participate in the following health and welfare benefits, you must enroll through the Benefits Service Center either online or by phone at 888.850.1767.

If You Don’t Enroll

If you don’t enroll or buy additional coverage for the company-provided benefits listed above, you will not have another opportunity until the next Open Enrollment period, unless you experience a qualifying life event, such as marriage, divorce, or the birth or adoption of a child.

If You Do Enroll

If you do enroll, your elections will be effective on the first of the month following or coinciding with 60 days of employment. Costs for benefits coverage will begin to be deducted from your paychecks at this time.

After 90 Days

After 90 days, you are eligible to:

Additionally, if you have not already elected to participate in your 401(k) Savings Plan, a 3% automatic contribution will now start being deducted from your paycheck. You can review and choose to adjust your 401(k) Savings Plan contributions at any time throughout the year at Fidelity NetBenefits. If you have already elected to participate, the automatic contribution election will not apply.

After 180 Days

You’re eligible to start using short- and long-term disability insurance if you become injured or too ill to work.

After Year 1

After one year at Republic Services, it’s important to review your benefits so they can remain up to date and meet the changing needs of you and your family.

  • Review your life insurance beneficiaries online through the Benefits Service Center website and make changes as necessary. Your beneficiaries are the people who will receive your benefits in the event of your death.
  • You should also review your life and accidental insurance coverage amounts and any other financial protection benefits to ensure they’re still aligned with your needs. You can adjust these amounts each year during Open Enrollment.
  • Check in on your 401(k) Savings Plan contributions online through Fidelity NetBenefits to make sure you’re taking advantage of the company’s matching contribution and that you’re on track to meet your retirement goals. While you’re online, you can also update your 401(k) Savings Plan beneficiaries.

Note: If you were automatically enrolled in the 401(k) Savings Plan and did not make any changes to your contributions, they will automatically increase at 1% per year for the next two years. This means that, if you take no action, your contribution total will be 5% beginning year three at Republic Services.

  • Review this website to make sure you’re not missing out on any important Republic Services benefits changes.
