What You Need To Know

If you’re working full-time and are regularly scheduled to work at least 30 hours a week, you can enroll in the Republic Services benefits program. Just be sure to complete your benefits enrollment within the first 60 days of employment.

Can I Sign Up My Family?

Yes! You can choose coverage for your eligible family members, including your:

  • Legal spouse or domestic partner.
  • Children up until the end of the month they turn 26.
  • Children age 26 and older who are physically or mentally disabled and can’t support themselves.

Eligible children include your biological children, stepchildren who live with you, a child placed for adoption, legally adopted children, foster children, and children for whom you have permanent legal guardianship.

When enrolling family members, you’ll need to submit certain paperwork to prove their eligibility. If you add a new family member, keep an eye out for communications on how to provide proof. Examples of required paperwork might include a copy of a marriage certificate, a domestic partner affidavit, or a birth certificate.

It’s important to provide the supporting documentation; otherwise, your covered dependents will not have coverage.

If you have any questions about whether a family member is eligible, log in to the Benefits Service Center website and chat with Sofia, your personal benefits assistant, available 24/7 to answer your benefits questions. Or you can call 888.850.1767 on Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. CT.

The Rules

  • If you don’t enroll during the 60-day enrollment period, you won’t be eligible for benefits coverage (except for company-paid benefits) until the next Open Enrollment period or unless you have a qualifying life event, such as marriage, divorce, or the birth or adoption of a child, and you report it within 31 days of the event.
  • Benefits coverage begins on the first of the month after, or on the same day as, day 60 of your employment.
  • If both you and your spouse work for the company, you can either enroll separately or as a family (with one of you as the employee and the other as a dependent).
  • You and your spouse can’t get double coverage for health insurance or life insurance. You also can’t get double coverage for your covered children.
