What You Need To Know

Whether you’re having a baby, adopting or fostering a child, Republic Services offers paid parental leave so you can bond with your growing family.

Eligibility

You’re eligible for paid parental leave if you have been employed with Republic Services for 90 days prior to the date your leave begins. For example, if you were hired on January 1, you’re eligible for paid parental leave if you become a parent after April 1. Temporary, seasonal and casual employees, as well as interns, are not eligible for paid parental leave. For more information on eligibility, review the paid parental leave policy

Amount of Leave You Receive

Beginning January 1, 2026, all primary or secondary caregivers can request up to six weeks of paid parental leave. For mothers giving birth, paid parental leave will start once any disability benefits are exhausted.

Take Note!

Paid parental leave must be taken within six months following the birth, adoption or foster placement of a child and must be used all at once, not as needed, unless otherwise required by applicable law. Once you return from paid parental leave, you cannot resume it later, even if you have not used all the time awarded.

Paid parental leave runs alongside any other leaves provided by Republic Services or required by federal, state or local law, including, but not limited to, leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

Your Benefits and Pay While on Leave

You’re still covered under your Republic Services benefits while on paid parental leave. No action is required by you.

During paid parental leave, you’ll receive 100% of your pay on your regularly scheduled pay dates, and your benefits contributions will be deducted from your paycheck as if you are working. If you’re a part-time employee, you’ll be paid based on the average number of hours worked over the previous 90 days before your leave.

Requesting Leave

To request paid parental leave:

  1. Tell your manager, along with your local HR representative.
  2. Apply through our third-party leave administrator, Sedgwick, at least 30 days prior to the proposed date of your leave. You can file your claim by calling Sedgwick at 855.550.6327.

Take Note!

You’ll need to provide Sedgwick with proof of your child’s birth or adoption within 20 days of when your leave begins.

If you will be adding your child to your Republic Services benefits, you’ll need to do so within 31 days of the birth, adoption or foster placement.
