Your Benefits and Pay While on Short-Term Disability

If approved, your short-term disability payments will be paid on your regularly scheduled pay dates. These payments will be made by Republic Services and paid in the same manner as your regular pay.

During your disability leave, you’re still covered under your Republic Services benefits. Your per-paycheck deductions will continue to be withheld from your disability pay. No action is required by you to maintain benefits.

Take Note!

Within 20 days of when your leave begins, you’ll need to provide Sedgwick with proof of disability from your medical provider.

If possible, consider planning for short-term disability prior to planned surgeries to ensure that all your paperwork is processed and there is no disruption to your benefits or pay.

Once you’ve exhausted your short-term disability benefits and you’re still not cleared to return to work, Sedgwick will coordinate with New York Life to begin the long-term disability approval process. New York Life will reach out to you to coordinate next steps.

Your Benefits and Pay While on Long-Term Disability

Once your long-term disability begins, you’ll begin to receive your pay from New York Life. Additionally, your benefits coverage with Republic Services will end. You’ll be eligible to enroll in COBRA continuation coverage. Enrollment forms will be mailed to your home address should you decide to continue your benefits with Republic Services through COBRA.

Take Note!

Your Republic Services short- and long-term disability benefits will be reduced if you receive other income. Other income could include earnings from working for another employer while you’re disabled, state disability benefits, Social Security benefits, workers’ compensation benefits or payments from a third party who is responsible for your disability.
