What You Need To Know
Whether it’s a joyous event or a personal challenge, it can affect your work life. Republic Services offers many leave options, so you can take time away to deal with whatever situation may arise.
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
FMLA is a federal law requiring employers to provide unpaid, protected leave for eligible absences for up to 12 weeks in a rolling 12-month period. When you return from leave, you will be reinstated to your original or equivalent position with no loss of seniority or benefits. This leave is appropriate when you need to take time off for your own serious health condition, to help a family member with their serious health condition, or for bonding time with a child after birth, adoption or foster care. In addition, FMLA provides up to 26 weeks to care for a covered armed services member. For more details, contact your local HR partner.
Bereavement Leave
If you’re dealing with the death of an immediate family member, such as your spouse, child, parent or grandchild, you may be eligible for up to three days of bereavement leave. For details, contact your local HR representative.
Military Leave
You can take military leave if you’re called to report for duty for any uniformed service branches, such as the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, Commissioned Corps or Reserves. Your position is protected up to the amount of time allowable by law. For more details, contact your local HR representative.
Jury or Witness Duty
If you’re called to serve on a jury or as a witness in a legal proceeding, you may be eligible for jury or witness duty leave. For more details, contact your local HR representative.
