What You Need To Know

If you leave Republic Services, your group benefits coverage will end at midnight on your last day of employment. This includes coverage for Extended Health Care, Dental, Life Insurance and other benefits provided through the Republic Services group benefits plan.

Continuing Your Benefits Coverage

After your coverage ends, you may be able to apply for individual health, dental or life insurance coverage through Manulife. Some options may only be available for a limited time after your group coverage ends, so review the information you receive from Manulife and apply within the required deadline.

You may also be eligible to join another group benefits plan, such as a spouse’s or partner’s plan or a new employer’s plan. Contact the administrator of that plan promptly because enrolment deadlines may apply.

Submitting Claims

Expenses must be incurred before your benefits coverage ends to be eligible for reimbursement. Submit any outstanding Extended Health Care, Dental, Health Care Spending Account or Wellness Spending Account claims to Manulife within the applicable claim-submission deadline.

Unused Health Care Spending Account and Wellness Spending Account credits cannot be transferred to another employer or paid to you in cash. Any credits remaining after the applicable claim deadline will be forfeited.

Québec Residents

Québec residents must have prescription drug coverage at all times. When your Republic Services coverage ends, you must enrol in another private prescription drug plan if one is available to you. If you do not have access to another private plan, you must register for the Public Prescription Drug Insurance Plan administered by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec.

If your spouse or dependents were covered under the Republic Services plan, confirm whether they must also join another private plan or register for the public plan.

Retirement and Savings Plans

Contributions to your Republic Services retirement and savings plans will stop when your employment ends. Sun Life will contact you with information about your account balance and the options available to you.

Your options will depend on the plan and applicable pension and tax rules. Pension plan funds may be locked in and generally cannot be withdrawn as cash. Review the information from Sun Life carefully and complete any required election within the stated deadline.

Final Pay and Record of Employment

Republic Services will process your final pay and any vacation pay or other amounts owed in accordance with applicable provincial employment standards and company payroll practices.
Republic Services will also issue a Record of Employment following an interruption of earnings.

If it is submitted electronically, you can view it through your My Service Canada Account. Service Canada determines whether you qualify for Employment Insurance benefits.
